Soft-bodied beetles; head is concealed from above by pronotum (exposed in Cantharidae). Tarsal formula 5-5-5.

Similar Taxa
Soldier Beetles (family Cantharidae) have a similar form, but their heads are not concealed by the pronotum, as in the Lampyridae.
