Description
Fifth metasomal segment has a ventral median carina which forks to form a Y. This character, according to Kari McWest, is the definitive character for U. mordax mordax and U. m. pluridens (which are probably the same).
Sexes
The males are smaller in body size and length than females and the color is noticeably duller on the males as well.
Colors
Color1: They are dark reddish brown to dark brown in color with the legs being yellowish.

BIOLOGY
Food
They feed on small crawling insects such as crickets, beetles, and larval insects.
Habitat
In Alameda County this scorpion is found along the west-facing side of the Oakland hills, along the west side of Albany Hill, and various more remote areas. The natural habitat of Uroctonus mordax is in dead trees, under rocks and under bark in heavily forested areas through out it's range. It can also be found on forested hills as long as there is some moisture provided.
Development
Uroctonus mordax molts 6 times before it reaches adulthood in which takes between 600-700 days. Uroctonus mordax gives birth between August-October. With parturition lasting between 8-14 hours. The gestation period is 8-12 months and litter size from 18-32. Young will stay on the mothers back from 12-15 days after birth, and their lifespan is 4-6 years.
