Insects of New Melones Reservoir - Calaveras County

New Melones Lake, on the Stanislaus River, is an artificial lake created by the construction of the New Melones Dam. The lake was constructed by the US Army Corps of Engineers and transferred to the Bureau of Reclamation shortly after its completion in 1980. When full, the shoreline is more than 100 miles. The lake provides irrigation water, hydroelectric power, flood control, wildlife habitat, fishing, camping, boating, and other recreation. Its shorline trail, Norwegian Trail, was the subject of an ISMC insect photo survey March 28, 2009.
