Insects of Lakeside Park (Lake Merritt) - Oakland, CA
Surveys at this location cover 3 locations at Lake Merritt: 1) Lake Merritt, General; 2) Rotary Nature Center vicinity; and 3) Gardens at Lake Merritt. Lakeside Park is North America's oldest wildlife, established in 1870, two years before Yellowstone. It is home to many waterfowl. "Lake" Merritt actually is not a lake, but a large tidal lagoon. It is surrounded by parkland and city neighborhoods. A popular 3.1 mile walking and jogging path runs along its perimeter. Included in the photographic insect survey are the grounds of the Gardens at Lake Merritt.
