Food
Larvae are scavengers in decaying vegetation.
Habitat
Larvae in moist/wet terrestrial biotopes: decaying leaves, manure, fungi, stored roots/tubers, and rodent burrows.
Active Period
Tend to fly when cool, spring and fall, or even winter in warmer climates.
Range
Globally, confined to temperate and cool climates.
Distribution
28 Species in 3 genera in America north of Mexico. All but 3 species are in the genus Trichocera. More than 180 species in 15 genera worldwide.

HABITAT
Larvae in moist/wet terrestrial biotopes: decaying leaves, manure, fungi, stored roots/tubers, and rodent burrows.
