The Insect Museum of California provides me with the opportunity to learn about insects and spiders, meet interesting people, and to look more closely at creatures that might otherwise escape my notice.

Clayton Anderson  -  Clayton Anderson is a lifelong naturalist and a master birder. He currently works as an environmental educator, and serves on the boards of the Golden Gate Audubon Society and the Insect Sciences Museum of California. Clay is founder of the Facebook Black Naturalist Group and a tropical fish hobbyist!
Dianne Fristrom, Ph.D.  -  Dianne Fristrom, Ph.D. is a retired cell biologist from U.C.Berkeley. An amateur botanist, she has a keen interest in wildflower photography and digital graphics. She lives part of the year in Oakland and part in Southern Oregon.
Damon Tighe  -  Born in Klamath Falls Oregon and raised in Calaveras County of California, Damon Tighe attended Saint Mary?s college of Moraga California where he worked on local newspapers while earning a Biology/Chemistry degree. He taught High School in Portland, Oregon and moved back to the Bay Area to work on the Human Genome Project at the National Lab?s Joint Genome Institute. He spent a bit of time pursing a MFA in Natural History and Science Filmmaking in Montana, but returned to the Oakland to work on biofuels and single cell genomics. He currently manages an apartment complex in downtown Oakland, works for Bio-Rad laboratories designing curriculum and training educators from Colorado to the coast in biotechnology, and is well versed in local fungi, plants and slowly but surely critters of Lake Merritt.
Eddie Dunbar  -  Eddie heads ISMC'S Insects of the San Francisco Bay Area Program, an outreach and publication effort. He has headed several entomology programs, including CityBugs for the University of California, Berkeley and multiple projects in Oakland Schools. In 2012 Eddie finished a revision of "Lake Merritt and Greater Oakland Insects".

Joyce Gross  -  Joyce is a remarkable insect photographer and Manager of the CalPhotos database at the University of California, Berkeley.
Jim Ryugo  -  Jim Ryugo is a naturalist and graduate of the University of California, Davis. His contributions are mostly from the Gardens at Lake Merritt and Davis, CA. Jim retired as Park Maintenance Manager for Oakland Parks. Jim's vision for using Oakland Parks to conserve local biota has inspired many City of Oakland staff.

Michelle Sawyers-Harris  -  Michelle Sawyers Harris (aka "Bug Hugger") is an Ohio native who grew up as a tomboy exploring neighborhood woods and creeks. She is a graphic/web designer and marketer with a BA in Biology, an MS in Marketing and graduate coursework in Entomology. Currently, she is working on an MA in Zoology/Environmental Education. Her studies have taken her to Costa Rica and Belize, and she has focused her research on insect conservation and entomophagy. Michelle also started her own company, Green Matter. Her aim is to dispel misconceptions about bugs while encouraging people to explore nature and go green.

Tora Rocha  -  Victoria "Tora" Rocha is an ISMC Board Member. Tora helps ISMC to connect with opportunities to increase habitat for insect pollinators. She is also a Park Maintenance Supervisor for the City of Oakland and oversees the grounds of Lakeside Park, North America's first wildlife sanctuary.
