RECOGNITION
Description
Abdomen: Ventrum is red. Head, thorax and legs are red. Elytra are orange-red with 3 purplish-black spots in front, and a broad black band at the far end.
Body Length
6-8 mm.

BIOLOGY
Food
Predaceous on borers, including Paratimia conicola and Chrysophana placida in knobcone pine cones and Hemicoelus gibbicollis, Ptilinus basalis and other powederpost beetles, principally in willow, alder and California laural.
Range
Occurs commonly from California to British Columbia, and less abundantly in the Intermountain Region.
